Education, B.A. - Secondary Education

Program Description

La Salle University’s Secondary Education program, approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), leads to a recommendation for Instructional I certification in grades 7–12. Students pursue a second major in their chosen content area: Social Studies (History), English, Communication, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Spanish (PK–12). Those interested may also select Religion as a dual major, though it does not lead to teacher certification. This combination of in-depth content study and professional education coursework prepares graduates to design engaging lessons, support diverse learners, and foster academic success in middle and high school classrooms.

Why Take This Major?

Secondary Education majors benefit from deep study in their chosen discipline while also gaining the pedagogical knowledge and classroom experience needed to thrive as teachers. With certification to teach in grades 7–12, graduates are prepared to guide adolescents through critical years of intellectual, social, and personal development. This major not only opens doors to meaningful careers in middle and high schools but also equips future educators to inspire the next generation of thinkers, creators, and problem-solvers.
